The Papyrus Font is Way Over-used!

It's tragic when you see a nicely designed font abused and overused. It seems like just about every other business is beginning to use this font as their "logo". I've seen it on several dentist offices, tons of restaurants, spas, hair salons, and furniture stores. Here's an example of the typical abuse.


I think business are falling into the trap of using this font because it's a distinct and evocative font that strongly communicates a vibe and aesthetic that not many other fonts can do. BUT all those benefits are moot now that "everyone" is using it. If you're a small business (or a big one for that matter) and need a logo or design for a brochure or marketing flyer etc, please hire an experienced graphic designer. If this graphic designer recommends using the Papyrus font for your logo or marketing material, the promptly fire them and hire someone who knows better.

I was seriously going to write this post a few days ago. I couldn't believe it when Lisa told me you just wrote a blog entry about the over use of Papyrus.

Amazing... you took the words right out of my mouth. We should start a band or something.

You two are funny... I loved Papyrus when it first came out (like everybody else, it seems), but to me, what's tragic about it being used on signage is it just feels way to much like something you'd see off an inkjet printer for home use. Keep it at home, people, in your journals, on your Word docs, your homemade baby shower invitations, and even at that, minimize. But please.... for the love of the children, don't flagrantly assault us on signage!
